Have you heard of Legal Process Serving or "Serving Documents?" Do you have any idea what that means? Are you curious about trying this field of work out?
Dear Friend,
So was I. I had just left a spiritually and mentally draining job and I was in search of something more fulfilling, but independent. A/K/A I was ready to be my own boss. I did a search online for independent contract jobs that are mobile and I came across legal process serving. Serving legal documents for a living? Sounded interesting.
I could only find minimal information about process serving. The few articles I found gave very generic definitions and failed to provide answers to the questions that were forming. I found a process server association for my state and signed up for a local training in hopes of finding those answers I couldn't elsewhere.
I walked into the training feeling confident I would get some insight into the who, what, when, where's, and how's of process serving. Boy, did I luck out! Not only was the class a snoozer, I only received the rules of procedure for my state and nothing else. I left that training with a certification and no idea how to begin.
After a few weeks of no action, I attended a local association meeting in order to network and find someone willing to train. Everyone said "No Way!" They did not want a newbie infiltrating their organization and stealing their clients. But, at the end of the meeting, I met a lady who needed some help and decided to train me.
And over 400 papers served or closed later, I have learned through trial and error exactly what it takes to be a successful process server.
If you are thinking about becoming a process server, STOP AND READ THIS BOOK!!
